Earning an industry certification is usually a costly investment. Thanks to the Florida Department of Education Open Door Grant for Industry, the SCF Coding Academy is able to provide scholarships for specified industry certification courses and free exam vouchers to qualified applicants.

The Open Door Scholarship is open to all Florida residents who meet the eligibility requirements. However, if you are an SCF student, the Coding Academy has industry certification courses that align with your classes. The Open Door Scholarship helps you pay for industry certification courses related to concepts being taught in identified SCF classes.

Open Door Coding Academy Certification Scholarships

Grant funds are available from June 2022 to June 2023. All students who accept the Open Door scholarships are required to take one of the industry certifications listed above. It is highly recommended that students take the certification courses while they take their SCF classes to reinforce what they are learning in the classroom.

Open enrollment is available for most classes.

Apply for a Coding Academy Open Door Scholarship

Fill out the application for the Open Door Scholarship below and we will contact you and let you know whether you qualify for a scholarship. If you qualify for a scholarship, you are agreeing to take the industry certification associated with the class for which you register with the Coding Academy.
Note: All Florida residents are eligible to apply for Open Door Grant Funding. You do not have to be a college student to qualify. However, the Open Door Scholarship can only be used to cover tuition for SCF Coding Academy courses that include the certifications listed below.

Underemployed is typically identified as someone who makes less than a livable wage. SCF Coding Academy recommends using MIT’s Living Wage Calculator to determine your status as underemployed.

The Open Door Scholarship will cover up to $3,000 per student, per program paid directly toward tuition.

The Open Door Scholarship does not require that students repay any funds.  The scholarship has two types of funds: Last Dollar Funds and Student Investment Funds. Last Dollar Funds are for students receiving state or federal financial assistance that can be used to pay Coding Academy tuition costs. These students do not have to pay out of pocket for eligible courses. Student Investment Funds are for students who have not received any state or federal financial assistance that can be used to pay Coding Academy tuition costs. Students receiving Student Investment Open Door  funds agree to pay 1/3 of the tuition upfront and another 1/3 of the tuition if they do not finish the course.

Open Door Grant covers the cost of tuition for SCF Coding Academy identified programs.

Eligible industry certification programs are listed in the application form.

The SCF Coding Academy has additional funding options for a variety of courses.  Visit the funding page on the website for more options.

Students will be accepted while funds are available, up until June 2023 semester.

No, A FAFSA application is not required for each academic year the grant is sought.

Upon completion of the eligible program, you will attain an SCF Coding Academy certificate of completion and any industry certification(s) passed during the course.

2022-2023 - Coding Academy Open Door Grant Scholarships

Last Dollar Scholarship

Up to $3000 to be used for tuition, books, and materials for SCF Coding Academy courses leading to an approved industry certification. (See list of approved courses in the Open Door Grant application form)

  • You are a Florida resident.
  • You have received state or federal financial aid that can be used within the Coding Academy.
  • You are currently unemployed, underemployed, or furloughed.
  • You agree to attempt the industry certification exam associated with the course in which you enroll.

Student Investment Scholarship

Up to $3000 to be used for tuition, books, and materials for the SCF Coding Academy courses leading to an approved certification. (See list above.) The student investment scholarship requires that students pay 1/3 of the tuition for the SCF Coding Academy course.

Requirements:

  • You are a Florida resident.
  • You have not received state or federal financial aid that can be used within the Coding Academy.
  • You are currently unemployed, underemployed, or furloughed.
  • You agree to pay 1/3 of tuition costs upfront.
  • You agree to attempt the industry certification exam associated with the course in which you enroll. 
  • You understand that you are responsible for an additional 1/3 of tuition costs if you do not take the industry certification exam or if you do not complete the course in which you registered.
